I found your channel today - 2 hours after you posted your goodbye video. I’m a breast cancer survivor who is getting ready to turn 52 and struggling with thinning hair. I assumed it was from the cancer as it came back thinner/finer but now I wonder if it’s just the timing with the age I am. I searched for Virtue reviews which is how I found you. Now I want to binge watch all of your videos b/c I think I’m searching for the wrong items. With that being said the 2 videos I have watched so far are wonderful and I’m sad I discovered you on the day you left. I have subscribed to this site though! Ive been considering starting a channel myself and now I’m not so sure. I went to the video you have linked and read quite a few comments. I am appalled at society these days. Those comments are rude and just not necessary. I never have nor will understand that. If you don’t like a video, stop watching and scroll on. There is NO reason to leave a nasty comment. We are not for everyone which is why YouTube is so great in that you can always find someone you enjoy. I truly can not imagine what the deleted ones said and my heart hurts for you that you had to read them. I look forward to getting to know you and reading your content. From one survivor to another - stay strong and live your best life! I just celebrated my 3 year anniversary and am finding my new happy :)

Julie! Two hours after must be some sort of record! So glad that you popped over here and left me a note. Aren't those comments brutal? And those are the ones I thought were passable enough to leave up, so that tells you how bad the attacking ones were. Sigh! Anyway, lots there in my archive for you to keep watching. And yes, I think age may play into our hair loss even after our cancer treatments. I'm raising a glass to your 3 year anniversary, I just passed my 6th! Big hug -Helen

Hi Helen: I can't tell you how much you helped me with my hair loss. It is because of you that I started treatment confidently. And I'm doing well! I loved your YouTube channel and I will miss you. But, as others have stated here, I totally get it! You are in control of how you spend your time, what you're exposed to and how to share your view with the world. I respect your stepping away from it. I've bookmarked this new site and will check in from time to time! Best wishes for this new journey!

Helen, I certainly will miss you but so so understand. Cannot say I’m not a little sad for a few reasons. One being my discouragement in a segment of the human race. You were the 1st video about hair loss and Rogaine that I found 3 years ago. Actually that’s when I started watching YouTube videos on a regular basis at all. I really didn’t even know how YouTube worked. Being frank I still don’t, totally. Your videos were honest and I was drawn to your style and personality immediately. I always felt that we could be friends in another “ format” 😜 say real life. Although, I believe I’m significantly older than you. Psst, I’m 61.

I wish you and your family all the best.

Kelli, you're just the kindest. Thank you. And yes, we would be friends, I'm sure of it! ;) One of my closest friends is your age...it really is just a number! I hope you stay along here for the ride, all you have to do is stay signed up with your email and you'll get newsletter updates for me. Lots coming this month! Hugs! -Helen

I just wanted to say thank you for sharing your story and all of your content! I have been following you for a few months and after years of struggling with hair loss that began as post partum loss, worsened with the stress of a divorce and medical diagnosis and finally, keto did me in.

It wasn’t until I watched your videos that I finally decided to try Minoxidil and guess what? I’m finally starting to see regrowth and feel good about my hair again.

I wish you the best on your journey and glad to have found a new way to support you:) Happy New Year!

You're so welcome, Jen! I've loved sharing over the years (uh, except for the trolling part!) and I'm so happy you've let me into your world, too. Sorry that it's been so rough BUT I'm super pumped that you're seeing regrowth and you're feeling better about your hair. Big hug -Helen P.S. Keto, ugh it's the worst! Did you see my previous weight loss article? I think I mention it briefly there but in the future I'll have another behind-the-scenes weight loss story.

Amy that's so nice of you. I'm a bit sad but I also feel the way I did when I finished university: That was tough, fun, and it's time to move on! ;) Big hugs -Helen

I can already tell that this tool is likely to be banned in some high school/college classrooms, but you wouldn’t even know if you had used it. So, you would have to have a very consistent writing style to pull this off. Good thing is I’m done with school so I don’t have to worry about this. However, it does pose the same dilemma as with AI art. Why bother learning anatomy, if an artificial intelligence can do it for you?

- greetings from Iverson W.

Iverson, yes! I agree. Perhaps they will move on to oral exams and oral essays as well, no more take-home work? It does indeed pose another dilemma, and further than that, both AI art and AI writing scrape the internet and cobble together the work of writers, artists, painters, journalists. Regulators are probably years away from figuring out these copyright issues. -Helen

I really enjoyed your videos, Helen ( aka Shrimpy). Watching your YouTube video was like having a neighbor friend over to chat about something we had in common: hair loss. I was also really enjoying the neighborhood walks you were taping because I had the opportunity to see what it’s like to live in Canada. ( 🥶, cold!) I’m sorry to see you go because I’ll miss seeing your pretty face. I like YouTube because I enjoy seeing people rather than just hearing a voice, like say on a podcast. But, oh, well, you need to do what you need feel you need to do. I wish you much success as you go forward to work your new projects. Blessings and Shalom! ( Shalom means peace, AND, “ nothing missing, nothing broken.” I wish you Shalom.

And likewise I always enjoy your thoughtful, kind and encouraging comments, and that sometimes we see issues differently but both have profound respect for each other. You teach me a lot too about the role of civil discourse in society, it goes both ways. Shalom to you, too, but it's not a goodbye...you know where to find me! ;) Hugs -Helen

You sound like you have very good reasons to leave utube. I certainly learned a lot from your videos, especially about hair loss and I also learned a lot from commenters and I (usually) enjoy reading them. it’s unfortunate that due to the anonymity of being online, the seemingly unhappy must take it out on others by being rude and insulting.

I want to tell you that I really enjoyed your fun, bubbly, personality. You had a great channel and I wish you the best on your future endeavors and creativity.

OK, let me know what you think:

My dearest Reiko,

Thou art the sun that warms my soul, the moon that guides my way.

Thy beauty radiates like the stars in the night sky, and thy love is the light that guides me through the darkest of days.

Thou art the beat of my heart, the music of my life.

With every breath I take, I am filled with the sweetest of desires - to hold thee close, to gaze upon thy face, to bask in the radiance of thy love.

Forsooth, my love for thee knows no bounds. It is a fire that burns bright and fierce, a flame that cannot be quenched.

It is a love that has no beginning and no end, a love that transcends time and space.

So, my dearest Reiko, I pray that thou will be mine, now and forevermore.

For thou art the very essence of my being, the one who makes my life complete.

Yours always and forever,

JP

That's really good! Imagine trying to pull this together yourself, using the right meter? It would take forever! And I bet ChatGPT typed this out in under a minute. I like watching it fill the screen as it answers your query. Today I heard that Microsoft is going to be integrating it into Bing, which should be interesting!

I did request a love poem in the style of Shakespeare that was also very impressive. I assume it will soon be possible to add touches of humor, sarcasm or more personal stylistic preferences that provide the text with some soul, but what a tool to get over that white page moment. Do writers then become post-editors for all the more mundane content?

I think you need to post it here now so we all can see it 😂

It's such a strange world to contemplate: what role will AI writing play in our lives? Can it write in someone's voice (yes, I would presume), will it ever master humour or will it be like Data on Star Trek? What are the ethics? These aren't even FUTURE concerns, they are happening right now.

ChatGPT was featured on prime time French news last night as high schoolers were indeed using the site to write better than average papers! The output is definitely generic but still amazing. On the French site you can ask for poems written in the style of specific poets with excellent results!

Generic! Yes, what a good way of describing it. I've heard people asking for plays to be written in the style of Shakespeare, with decent results: I think it even uses iambic pentameter? We are living in wild times. I wonder if the genies out of the bottle or the world will find some way to curtail this. Remains to be seen in 2023, I guess!
