Hey friends! I know, I know…you’re probably thinking, Who are you again? Back in the spring I recused myself from writing this newsletter because I was in my midlife crisis art-making era and I wanted to concentrate on that.
🎨 Since then, I sold a painting! It was this cutie of a robin in my backyard in watercolour and pen. I guess this means I’m an artist now? I love that for me.
💇🏻♀️ In June I was interviewed for Self Magazine on hair loss. Back in the heyday of magazines, I would have heard from lots of friends and family about being featured like this, but magazines do not have the import they once did, so it was crickets.
Which is fine! I did it to help other women NOT get absolutely fleeced on bullshit hairloss products.
Anyway, read the article here if you’re into it. Kudos to writer Rina Raphael who was very exacting both in her interview and fact-checking process. As a former-ish magazine journalist myself (watch me contradict myself in the next paragraph) it was weird and uncomfortable to be on the other side of the interview, but here we are.
🎭 I wrote an article for Destination Toronto, the city’s tourism website where I am a contributor, on the must-see theatre of 2024-2025 in Toronto. I’m almost tempted to see Moulin Rouge the musical, but then I remember I hate people scream-singing at me so I probably won’t go. I’m a big drag who also can’t do concerts because they are too loud and make me feel like I’m having a sensory meltdown.
💊 And my big BIG news is that I finished taking Tamoxifen pills. That is the drug that Shannen Doherty (rip) decided not to take, and yes I felt judgy when I first heard she refused it. Then when she died I read a bit more about why she refused, and it was because she still held the hope of having children with her then-spouse. All very sad.
📷 Over 7 years I’ve taken 2,555 pills and now I don’t have to anymore! I even vlogged it, because Yes, vlogging is cringe, but how else should I commemorate this awesome milestone? Then I got sick as a dog.
Anyway, I hope you watch this if for nothing else than the friggin awesome montage I made at the beginning of the video featuring some autumn scenes from my city.
I did a nice job! Then I rotted in bed. You’ll see…
Alright that’s all for this missive, thank you for reading, thank you for your love and support.
Helen
Such good news Helen! (Except the sick as a dog part). You did it!
