Gah! I totally did mean machine, that was a typo! Thanks for catching and absolutely no explanation needed, I appreciate you! Thanks for re-reading it, as well!
Thank you! Your response and the article was helpful.
I really need something like your approach because through the day, I keep putting off getting to the gym. (I’m retired, but busy with settling my mom’s estate and other projects I put off while working.) If I put it off too long, the gym is packed and I can’t work out in my regular spot.
You’re right about the gym bros, too. They’re no big deal and often nice if I ask a question (like, “are you using this bench”). (I don’t talk to them often.)
Great question! Zone 2 is a sort of lower-intensity steady state cardio that's about 115-120 BPM in my case. It's the kind of cardio where you can still have a conversation but not gasping for air (which is a good way to measure if you're in zone 2). As for me, I have an Apple Watch which tells me by BPM, but I don't have to look at it, I just know when I am because I can perceive my exertion level. Does that make sense? Here's a Women's Health article that looks pretty good and goes into more detail. Thanks for the comment! https://www.womenshealthmag.com/fitness/a44868963/zone-2-cardio/
Thanks Cath! Great question! I like the compartmentalization and the communal aspect of it (even though it's all strangers at the gym). I also enjoy getting out of the house and really focusing rather than getting distracted by household tasks...the only thing I can liken it to is that I used to enjoy studying at the library rather than in my room, and likewise I'd probably eat at an office cafeteria rather than at my desk even if I didn't know anyone! Exercising at home is great too though, any exercise is better than no exercise!
I just re-read your articles for motivation and noticed this phrase:
“…and a mix of maybe one leg magazine and bicep curls…”
Should that be “one leg machine”?
Not meaning to be critical, but helpful. Thanks again for explaining what is working so well for you.

Ah that’s a lot on your plate, I get it! I hope these insights help you a bit and encourage you. Have a great day!
How do you know you’re in zone 2? What is zone 2?

Great post! Question for you. Why do you go to a gym rather than exercise at home?
